eCOGRA Will Issue a Report on Online Gambling

27 Jul 2006

The online gambling industry's standards authority eCOGRA (eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance) will issue a report regarding online gambling, in the beginning of next year. The eCOGRA Global Gambler Report set to launch on January 2007 will offer some insight on online gambling issues world wide.

Presently, eCOGRA's "Play it Safe" seal is the only certification provided by an independent recognized international auditing firm, to verify and constantly recheck the online gambling industry's framework. As US main argument regarding the need to ban online gambling is the fact that the industry is not doing enough to identify and keep online gambling problems under control, it has become necessary to confront this issue.

The eCOGRA Global Gambler Report will focus on online gambling fans, who they are, how frequently they visit online casino sites, their reasons for gambling online and the impact of online gambling on their financial situation and well being. In addition, the report will differentiate between online casino players and online poker gambling fans. CEO of eCOGRA, Andrew Beveridge comments that while this kind of report may be complicated to produce, it is essential, in his words "that player concerns are fully understood by organizations like eCOGRA, which provide the only effective monitoring and resolution protecting procedures". Beveridge states that a research, which will follow eCOGRA Global Gambler Report, will further investigate the motivations and outlook of online casino gaming participants and claims that its results will "inform regulatory decisions, operator conduct and even software design for years to come"
